MAGNA, Utah, Sept. 2, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police officers cut off a high-speed chase Friday morning over public safety concerns, then responded to calls that the car had crashed into a fence shortly afterward.
The incident began at about 3:30 p.m. when an officer in Magna saw a speeding blue Dodge Charger headed southbound on 7200 West near 2800 South. The officer tried to pull over the car, which took off even faster, according to UPD Lt. Justin Hoyal.
“We determined it was a stolen car, and it was traveling at a high rate of speed, so we terminated the pursuit,” Hoyal said. “We had a report of a car crash, and found that it was the same vehicle we had been chasing earlier.”
By the time police arrived, the suspect and any possible passengers had fled. Officers and K9s were unable to find anyone in the area.
The Unified Department asks anyone able to provide information on the case to call 801- 743-7000.
