WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Aug. 17, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was transported to a local hospital Friday night after he apparently rode a scooter into an intersection and was struck by a vehicle.
The accident happened just before 8:30 p.m. at 3148 West and 3500 South.
West Valley City Police Lt. Brandon Christiansen said a 20- to 30-year-old man was riding a Razor-type scooter just east of the intersection, when he went into the street and was hit by a car.
Christiansen said it wasn’t known if the man was trying to cross the street or how he ended up in the road.
“He was pretty intoxicated,” Christiansen said of the scooter rider.
The man was transported to the hospital with several broken bones.
“He was going in and out of consciousness, and it wasn’t clear if he had head trauma or if he was losing consciousness because he was intoxicated. He wasn’t extremely intoxicated, it was just obvious he had been drinking,” Christiansen said.
The female driver of the car remained at the scene and was quite shaken by the incident, Christiansen said.
No citations were issued.
