GRAND COUNTY, Utah, Dec. 10, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — Kristin Cavallari’s brother Michael has been found dead nearly two weeks after he went missing, according to a news release from Grand County Sheriff’s Department.
Officials said search crews located remains believed to be those of Michael Cavallari at approximately 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The body was scheduled for transport to the office of the Utah Medical Examiner for positive identification and to determine the cause of death.
Crews were searching the Salt Wash area, near exit 175 on Interstate 70 in Grand County. The terrain where the body was found is steep and rocky.
Michael Cavallari initially raised concerns when his 2014 Honda Civic was found abandoned on Nov. 27 on I-70 in Utah, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Following a search of the immediate area, authorities could not determine Cavallari’s whereabouts.
Michael Cavallari was the brother-in-law of Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler and the brother of television personality and designer Kristin Cavallari.
Kristin Cavallari confirmed on Monday that her brother was missing in a message on Instagram.
According to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, a car belonging to Michael Cavallari, of San Clemente, was found abandoned in an area known as Floy Wash Road five miles south of exit 175 on I-70.
A search of the immediate area failed to locate Cavallari, and the Grand County Sheriff’s Office then investigated his disappearance as an active missing persons case.
Credit card receipts were traced to the Maverick gas station in Monticello, Utah where a review of surveillance footage confirmed Cavallari’s identity.
Coincidentally, Cavallari is the second relative of an NFL quarterback to go missing in Utah in recent weeks. Provo mother Nicole Coletti Harris, cousin of former NFL quarterback and ESPN analysts Steve Young, disappeared Oct. 24, 2015 and has not been heard from since.
