Utah Ranked Number One in Job Growth for Fourth Consecutive Month
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – June 19, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Utah posted the highest job growth rate in the nation for total and private sector job growth for the fourth consecutive month. According to new data released today, the state of Utah ranked first for total job growth at 3.8 percent and first for private sector job growth at 4.5 percent.
“Utah’s economic model is working,” said Gov. Herbert. “Our economy continues to grow in strength and diversity, and businesses recognize Utah is the place they want to invest and expand. That’s good news for all Utahns.”
Here is how Utah compares with the rest of the nation:

Utah ranked first in the nation for year-over total job growth at 3.8 percent. Washington ranked second at 3.7 percent, followed by Florida at 3.4 percent and Nevada at 3.3 percent.

Utah ranked first in the nation for private sector job growth at 4.5 percent. Washington ranked second at 4 percent and Florida was third at 3.9 percent.

Utah had the third lowest unemployment rate in the nation at 3.5 percent. States with lower rates were Nebraska at 2.6 percent and North Dakota at 3.1 percent.
Utah’s unemployment rate of 3.5 percent remained two percentage points below the national rate of 5.5 percent and ranked third in the nation last month. While the Utah unemployment rate rose a tenth of a percentage point from April to May, this was accompanied by the fifth consecutive month of accelerating labor force expansion. Nine of ten private sector industry groups posted net job increases during the month of May.
