Kanab Worker Killed In Zipline Accident

KANAB, UTAH – July 15, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) –

Police in Kanab are investigating the the death of a 54-year-old man who died Tuesday after falling from a zipline.

According to Kanab Police Chief Tom Cram, Darren Gilley, was helping riders exit the zipline when one of them one of them “came in too hot” and bounced back up the line. Gilley grabbed onto the rider and was dangling in the air as he tried to free them when he lost his grip and plummeting 150 feet to the ground.

The owners of Kanab Zipline issued a statement late Monday night confirming Gilley’s death.

“We are really sorry to announce that one of our contractors was killed today while operating the zipline. We offer our sincere condolences to the family of the contractor. Our priority today is looking after the family of the deceased. We have a 100 percent safety record. Safety always comes first so we are working closely with the authorities, investigating why this accident happened.”

Gilley was originally from California and had just started working at Kanab Zipline Monday.
