SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 4, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A late-season storm is expected to bring mountain snow, valley rain and strong winds to parts of Utah this weekend.

Precipitation will begin moving into northern Utah on Saturday night, bringing mountain snow and valley rain, according to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City.

Snowfall is expected from early Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening, with the heaviest accumulations in the mountains, the NWS reported.

Between 8 inches and 16 inches of snow is expected through Tuesday in the northern mountains, with up to 2 feet in the upper Cottonwood Canyons.

Elsewhere, a storm system is expected to bring strong winds across various valley areas. A high-wind warning was in place for the western Utah valleys Saturday afternoon, with winds expected to peak Saturday evening and overnight into Sunday, according to the NWS forecast.

“Strong winds will expand eastward on Sunday, with Utah’s eastern valley areas expected to see wind gusts between 50 and 60 mph while western valley winds diminish through the day,” the NWS advisory says.
