SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 18, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 20-year-old Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints missionary has died while serving in eastern Argentina, officials said Thursday morning.

Church spokesman Daniel Woodruff said in a news release Elder Emilio Ignacio Pradenas Diaz passed away Monday after a brief, undiagnosed illness.

At this time, the exact cause of death is undetermined, Woodruff added.

Pradenas Diaz had been serving in a city in eastern Argentina, part of the Uruguay Montevideo West Mission. He is from the Santiago Chile Ñuñoa Stake.

“We pray his family and loved ones will feel the peace of the Spirit at this time,” the news release added.

Stephen Marshall, who wrote in a Facebook post that he was Pradenas Diaz’ zone leader, added: “This elder was in my zone. I was his zone leader right before I got home. I am super sad to hear about the loss of this good elder. I did not see anything strange when I was with him and this is super unexpected. I pray for the family of this elder.”

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
