Magnitude 3.9 earthquake strikes outside Tremonton

TREMONTON, Utah, May 4, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A magnitude 3.9 earthquake struck northern Utah early Saturday morning.

According to the University of Utah Seismograph Stations, the quake hit at 2:36 a.m. 16 miles southwest of Tremonton, 63 miles northwest of Salt Lake City.

Dozens of people reported feeling the temblor on the U.S. Geological Survey website. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The U.U.S.S. reported on social media the epicenter of the “minor quake” was centered about 2.98 miles below the surface and felt mostly in communities northeast of the Great Salt Lake.

“So far there have been six aftershocks, the largest of which is an M2.2,” the U.U.S.S. posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Since 1981, the U.U.S.S. has located 155 M2 or greater events within 15 mi of this event’s epicenter.”
