WEST JORDAN, Utah, Oct. 29, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 75-year-old man was transported to the hospital with critical injuries after being pinned between two cars in West Jordan on Monday afternoon.

Sgt. J.C. Holt, West Jordan Police Department spokesman, told Gephardt Daily the crash occurred at 7000 S. 2923 West at approximately 3 p.m.

“We had a gentleman that was driving a Dodge pickup truck, he was towing a Mini car behind him, a little MG, and he pulled off the roadway to make some adjustments or something presumably to the car that he was towing,” Holt said. “While he was in between the two cars, there was a Dodge minivan that was also traveling east, on 7000 South, that clipped or collided with the rear end of the MG. The gentleman obviously was between those two cars, so he suffered some pretty serious injuries as a result of that.”

The man was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries, Holt said.

“With the age there, it brings in some new risk factors associated with bodily injury,” Holt added. “He was conscious, he was talking when he left, but they were concerned that there was other stuff going on, because he was in a lot of pain. So they took him to the hospital where he’s being evaluated.”

Holt said officials are in the process of notifying the man’s family members; he lived close to where the accident occurred.

The man was not identified by officials.

A Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team is on scene to investigate the incident; it’s not clear at this time why the minivan collided with the MG. Holt said the driver of the minivan remained on scene and is cooperating with authorities.

Holt said the eastbound road was shut down after the incident but has since reopened.

He said the incident serves as a warning to all drivers.

“Pay attention to your surroundings and know what’s up in front of you and, obviously, if you see a car that’s parked on the side of the road on the shoulder, slow down, move over a little bit, give that car some room,” Holt said.
