TAYLORSVILLE, Utah, May 17, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A man trying to avoid a collision on Tuesday swerved off a Taylorsville road, caught his car on telephone pole guy wire, and flipped his vehicle, pinning himself inside as the weight of his car pulled down the pole.
Unified Police Det. Ken Hansen said the accident happened just after 9 a.m. when a westbound passenger vehicle on 5400 South was traveling too fast to stop behind other cars waiting at a red light at 1900 West.
“He attempted to go around the car to avoid hitting them,” Hansen said. “As he went to the right of the road, his car caught one of the guy wires connected to a pole, causing the car to flip and the pole to come down.”
Hansen said the man was pinned inside his car and had to be extricated. He was transported in fair condition to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.
The road, 5400 South, was closed for a couple of hours until the phone company was able to remove the pole and clear the line that was draped across all east and westbound lanes.
