CEDAR CITY, Utah, May 18, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — A man accused of attempted aggravated murder and aggravated burglary in a Cedar City case has added more charges since he was incarcerated on May 13.

Arturo Jose Borges, 34, now faces two assault by a prisoner charges after he allegedly punched a guard in the mouth with a closed fist, resulting in abrasion and swelling damage to the deputy’s lower lip, on May 15; and spit on a guard, hitting her two out of three times, on Sunday. Both acts were described as unprovoked.

Cedar City police were called at 10:26 p.m. May 12 about a man found bleeding on someone’s front steps at a trailer park area. Officers helped the victim get to the hospital, where he was given multiple stitches and sutures, Borges’ arrest document says.

A news release issued by the CCPD says the victim had been stabbed multiple times. He was treated, and later said to be in stable condition.

On the scene where the victim was found, officers followed a blood trail left by the man, and were able to find where it started, at the back door of a trailer.

The suspect was later identified as Borges, and a surveillance recording was found of him leaving the scene after the bleeding victim left.

A search of the area failed to turn up Borges, his arrest document says.

The next afternoon, neighbors called to say they had seen Borges entering a different trailer. A warrant was issued, and Borges was called out. He was found to be wearing clothing that matched that seen in the surveillance video that recorded the suspect leaving the scene.

“Arturo’s hoodie was covered in cattails, which would be consistent with hiding in a field throughout the night evading law enforcement,” says the arrest document, filed by an officer of the Cedar City Police Department.

“Officers interviewed Arturo and he stated ‘I did the crime, it was me, I did it.’ At that point, Arturo didn’t want to speak anymore.”

In all, Borges is being investigated for alleged:

  • Attempted aggravated murder, a first-degree felony
  • Aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony
  • Aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily harm, a second-degree felony
  • Two counts of assault by a prisoner, a third-degree felony
  • Burglary of a vehicle, a class A misdemenaor

Borges is being held without bail.
