OGDEN, Utah, Jan. 2, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man who pleaded guilty to aggravated kidnapping after assaulting a women on a Roy walking trail has been sentenced to time in the Utah State Prison.

Jorge Pedro Soria Nieto, 23, was sentenced Wednesday to serve six years to life after he pleaded guilty to the first-degree felony in a plea deal.

In exchanged for his guilty plea, a charge of forcible sexual abuse, also a first-degree felony, was dismissed.

A probable cause statement says the attack happened on Aug. 25, 2018. Nieto grabbed the victim, who was walking near West Park. The statement says Nieto attempted to cover the woman’s mouth, but she was able to scream for help, causing Nieto to flee.

“The victim and her husband were able to find the suspect several minutes later and was able to record the suspect with their cell phone,” the statement says. Police later located Nieto at Midland Elementary School, and took him into custody.

After being read his Miranda rights, Nieto told police he had been drinking alcohol for several hours before he decided to go for a run, the statement says.

“Jorge stated he saw the victim on the trail and had a moment of weakness, and went behind the victim, and put his hand around her mouth,” the statement said. “… Jorge stated that he had bad thoughts.”

During his initial interview, Nieto “stated he has only been in Utah for four months, didn’t have an ID, did not know his home address.”
