EMERY COUNTY, Utah, May 17, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A motorcyclist died Thursday night in a head-on collision with a semi on State Route 6 in Emery County.

The resulting fire destroyed the semi and its cargo, and closed the roadway, U.S. Route 6, for multiple hours.

The accident happened at about 10:45 p.m. when an eastbound motorcyclist crossed a centerline, near milepost 298 of SR-6, heading into oncoming traffic, a Utah Highway Patrol report says.

The collision site was northwest of Green River.

“There was a westbound tractor trailer near the same location,” the UPH statement says. “The motorcycle crossed center and impacted in a head-on style with the semi. The rider of the motorcycle died on the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol, prescription drugs, and windy weather are all possible factors in the crash.

“The collision and a subsequent fire (destroying the semi and its cargo) caused a complete closure of travel on US-6 (both eastbound and westbound directions) for approximately four hours.”

The report does not mention any injury to the semi driver.

The name of the motorcyclist has not yet been released.
