LAYTON, Utah, July 14, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Firefighters deal with plenty of heat without soaring temperatures.

But Utah agencies are dealing with fire, heavy protective gear and the current heat wave.

“102 degrees and a big incident in Layton near I-15 caused Mountain Green engine 131 to be called to assist at a large house fire 20 minutes away in Farmington near the water park on US-89,” says a statement issued Saturday by Mountain Green Fire.

“The large grass fire that was threatening structures pulled resources from throughout Davis County to control when the house fire was reported. Firefighters were being taxed out from the heat, wearing heavy gear and intense work, taking its toll at both incidents.

Mountain Green engine 131 was dispatched along with Weber Engine 64 to assist Farmington, Kaysville, South Davis, North Davis, and South Weber units at the 2-alarm-plus attic fire in a larger older home, the statement says.

“Firefighters are not superheroes, they are affected by heat and exertion, and several were treated for heat exhaustion. One of our Mountain Green firefighters was hit by a falling ceiling while searching with his crew and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

He was later released, the statement says.

“Busy day for firefighters in this area.”
