SPANISH FORK CANYON, UTAH – August 2, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Heavy rains caused big problems for people passing through Spanish Fork Canyon Sunday, after a mudslide swamped parts of SR-6, as well the train tracks running beside it.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, a wall of mud and water pushed across both lanes of the highway near the 193 mile mark shortly before 2 p.m. closing the road as well as the Union Pacific rail line.
Traffic was closed in both directions until work crews were able to open one lane to alternating traffic later in the afternoon.
Traffic to road vehicles was expected to be back to normal Sunday night.
No word on when rail traffic will be restored.
