TAYLORSVILLE, Utah, Feb. 22, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) —Â Three cars, a van and a UTA bus were involved in a Thursday morning accident that may have been caused by a driver under the influence, police said.
Unified Police Department officials told Gephardt Daily the incident occurred just after 9:30 a.m. Thursday on 2700 West and 5400 South.
All five vehicles were travelling eastbound on 5400 South, and the bus was stopped at a red light at 2700 West.
Witnesses said the driver of a blue Chevy van was weaving in and out of the lanes on 5400 South, then collided with the back driver’s side of the bus, causing a chain reaction.
The driver then got out of the van, according to witnesses, and walked toward the America First Credit Union at 2715 W. 5400 South. By the time police arrived, the driver was nowhere to be found.
UPD officials said they know who the van is registered to, and it does not appear to have been stolen, so the next step is to investigate who may have been driving it and whether that person was in fact under the influence.
There were no injuries as a result of the accident. The bus was able to drive away from the scene and the four other vehicles were towed.
There were delays to traffic while the incident was investigated, and two lanes of the four-lane road were shut down, while two lanes and the left turn lane remained opened. All lanes were reopened by 11:45 a.m.
Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
