KEARNS, Utah, March 31, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police have released more details about a Kearns double shooting that left a married couple dead and the wife’s adult children with gunshot wounds.
Sgt. Aymee Race, UPD, told reporters Tuesday that the dead are Floyd Allred, 64 and believed to be the shooter, and his wife, Kaylene Allred, 61. They were found inside their Kearns residence, in the 4100 west block of Twilight Drive (5950 South).
The victims who survived were the children of Kaylene Allred, who reportedly lived with their mother and step-father. They were hospitalized, and are now in stable condition, Race said.
The initial call came to dispatch at about 10:27 p.m. Monday, and was reported as a domestic incident. Race said officers had responded to domestic violence calls at the address before, but the incidents had not involved physical violence.
The caller initially told dispatch that this time, the violence was physical, and drugs and alcohol were involved, but the weapon in the house was locked up.
At 10:32 p.m., the dispatch operator could hear “what appears to sound like shots fired inside the home, and the caller had stated that people had been shot,” Race said.
“At 10:33 in the evening, additional shots were heard, and the caller stopped responding to dispatch.” A male, Kaylene Allred’s son, exited the residence at 10:33 p.m. His sister exited two minutes later, Race said. Both were transported to an area hospital in serious condition.

Officers arrived on scene from multiple agencies, including West Valley City Police, West Jordan Police, Taylorsville Police, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and other area agencies, Race said.
“When police made entry into the home, they located two adults that were deceased. It does appear to be a murder-suicide,” with Floyd Allred as the shooter, Race said.
“Our hearts go out to the family. This is a very tragic set of events. That’s why we wanted to postpone some of this information, to give them time to process it, make their calls.”
Race said that after initial interviews with the surviving victims, investigators believe they “were caught off guard when the shots were fired, as well as the deceased individual. It was a very quick incident. They were caught off guard by the shots, but there was some type of argument happening.”

After firing the other shots, investigators believe Floyd Allred turned the gun on himself, ending his life.
Race said additional information is being withheld at present, either to protect the investigation or the surviving victims.
