MURRAY, Utah, Sept. 22, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — More than 1,700 customers lost power in Murray on Thursday morning after a car crashed into at least one power pole.

The crash happened at about 4 a.m. on 4500 S. 300 East, according to the Rocky Mountain Power website.

A total of 1,793 customers lost power, but power was restored at 9:25 a.m.

Officials said the driver of the car suffered minor injuries.

Neighbor Don Nebeker described the dramatic incident to Gephardt Daily.

“The other guy that lives with us right now said he heard that the guy who hit the thing was coming down the north side of the street, wrong lane of traffic, scared the heck out of a lot of people who heard him coming, and veered to get away,” Nebeker said.

“From then, came across the street to the lane where he should be, hit the pole, he went through a lot of hedges there, hit the other pole further down, on the sidewalk side. The car was on fire. They took him away alive, said what kept him alive was the airbags that he had in his vehicle.”
