TOOELE, Utah, Sept. 8, 2020 (Gephardt Daily) — Tooele Fire Department was called to a residential fire late Monday night and arrived to find the entire back of the home in flames.

Assistant Fire Chief Jed Colovich, with Tooele F.D., said crews were dispatched to the single-family residence at 950 W. 200 South at 11:15 p.m.

“People were trapped in an upstairs bedroom,” Colovich said, “but a neighbor had brought a ladder over and everyone was climbing down” as firefighters arrived.

He said the family was concerned about their pets, and fire crews were able to bring “two dogs, a cat, and a couple of fish” safely out of the house.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Colovich said the homeowners had been working on their deck earlier in the day, and had left oily rags out, which may have spontaneously combusted; however, officials are still investigating the exact cause of the fire.

No estimate of damages was immediately available.
