GRANTSVILLE, Utah, Oct. 23, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The newest officer with the Grantsville City Police Department found 65 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of a car at the Utah border over the weekend.

Officer Joseph Lopez was stationed at a DUI checkpoint on the border, Grantsville PD said in a Facebook post.

“While conducting his duties at the checkpoint, Officer Lopez gained probable cause to search a vehicle and during the search he located approximately 65 pounds of marijuana stashed in the trunk of the vehicle,” the post said. “The vehicle was traveling from California to Nebraska and Officer Lopez was able to use his skills he has learned in his training so far to stop the drugs from being transported across state lines.”

Back on Aug. 9, Grantsville PD posted on Facebook: “Please join us in congratulating Officer Joseph Lopez for successfully completing his Peace Officer certification. We have high expectations for him.”
