GRANTSVILLE, Utah, Dec. 28, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police responded to a report of a verbal argument early Friday morning, and encountered a suspect who was armed and refused to come out of the home.
The incident began at about 3:30 a.m. at a home on Quirk Street, according to a news release from Grantsville City Police Department.
Three officers tried to make contact with the suspect. When the first one announced that he was a Grantsville police officer, another officer, who could see into the home, observed the suspect pull a gun from his waistband and cock it.
The officers took cover immediately.
“Officers were able to pull two people from a window in the back of the home and get them to safety,” the news release says. “They attempted to call the suspect out of the home. The suspect emerged from the back door and refused to show his hands and went back into the residence.”
SWAT was called to the scene, and a hostage negotiator from Tooele City Police Department spoke to the suspect and was able to convince him to surrender without incident.
“We would like to thank the Tooele City Police Department, Tooele County Sheriffs Office and the federal officer who responded to assist in the apprehension,” the news release states
Quirk Street was temporarily shut down during the incident, but was reopened immediately after the suspect was in custody.
