FARMINGTON, Utah, Oct. 24, 2023 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified the road construction worker killed Monday morning when a portion of a crane being disassembled fell on him.

The victim was Darren Baddley, 42. He was from Gunnison, says a notice from Utah Highway Patrol. Gunnison, in Sanpete County, is 140 miles south of Farmington, the accident site.

The crane and workers were near the Interstate 15 Glover Lane overpass. The crew was working on the West Davis Highway Project. Two lanes of I-15 were closed for multiple hours during the investigation.

“Utah’s transportation community is extremely close knit, and we all mourn the loss of this dedicated teammate,” says a statement issued Monday by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT).

UDOT spokesman John Gleason spoke with reporters.

“It’s the dedication of these men and women who are out here that have made this project possible and so to have something like this happen where we lose a member of our construction team, it’s hard to process.”

Gephardt Daily will have more information as investigation details are released.
