MOUNTAIN GREEN, Utah, July 18, 2020 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a passenger who died Friday evening in a two-car collision in Mountain Green.

The deceased woman has been identified as Gladys Vause, 92, of Morgan, a Utah Highway Patrol statement says.

Troopers were notified at 6:21 p.m. of a crash blocking Interstate 84 westbound, near milepost 95.

“Upon arrival, troopers found that there were two vehicles involved,” the UHP statement says. “A BMW passenger car was traveling eastbound on I-84 near milepost 95 at a high rate of speed according to witnesses. A Mercury passenger car was traveling westbound I-84 at the same location. The driver of the BMW veered quickly to the left and went through the cable barrier in the median and collided head-on with the Mercury passenger car.

“A passenger in the Mercury passenger car sustained fatal injuries from the accident. Impairment and excessive speed are being looked at as possible contributing factors for the driver of the BMW.”

Three other people were transported with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, a statement from the Mountain Green Fire Protection District says.

“Firefighters treated patients and handled hazards, including a significant fuel leak from one vehicle,” it says. Debris was strewn over the scene, which extended for a quarter-mile, completely shutting down westbound I-84.

The roadway was closed to traffic for about four hours during the subsequent investigation, the UHP statement says.
