WEBER COUNTY, Utah, May 16, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Ogden Canyon is closed Thursday evening after downed power lines caused a fire.

A tweet from the Utah Department of Transportation at 6:40 p.m. said State Route 39 closed in both directions at mile post 8 and mile post 15 “due to downed power lines and related fire.”

Weber Fire District spokesman Captain Oliver Cummings said crews initially responded to what was reported as a grass fire. It turned out that a tree fell across the river, and pulled on the power lines, which caused a fire.

The canyon opened for a time, but as of 9:15 p.m., has closed again.

A tweet from UDOT said: “An emergency utility repair had closed the entire canyon highway, from Valley Drive to SR-158. Use alternate routes.”

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
