Ogden man charged with murder after shooting death of 1 woman, gunshot wound to 2nd

OGDEN, Utah, July 2, 2020 (Gephardt Daily) — An Ogden man has been booked into jail on charges including murder after police responded to a call of shots fired after midnight Wednesday morning, and found one woman injured and another deceased.

The suspect is 40-year-old Sergio Arturo Chavez, who turns 41 on Thursday. Chavez is being held without bail.

“The victim received treatment on scene from medical personnel with the Ogden Fire Department and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition,” the OCPD statement says.

“A second adult female victim (40-years-old) was located inside the residence. She also sustained gunshot injuries and was deceased. The public release of her name is pending to allow time for family notification.
Preliminary investigation and evidence from the scene have led to the arrest of 40-year-old Sergio Chavez of Ogden on a number of charges.”

The investigation is in its early stages, the Ogden City Police statement says.
“Although there was probable cause to make an arrest, there are still hours of interviews, lead investigation, and forensic services that need to take place. Detectives from the Ogden Police Department, the Weber County Homicide
Task Force and CSI are actively working with prosecutors from the Weber County Attorney’s Office to ensure a complete and thorough investigation.”

Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact OCPD Detective Lunt at 801-629-8209.
