OREM, Utah, May 17, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Southbound Interstate 15 is closed at 1600 North in Orem after a rollover crash Thursday morning.
Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Todd Royce told Gephardt Daily the incident occurred at approximately 11 a.m. at milepost 272 at 800 North and the freeway has been shut down in that area.
Royce said troopers received reports of a reckless driver and a trooper was in place to intervene when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle hit the right wall and started to overturn, then rolled several times across the freeway.
The man was ejected and died on scene, Royce said.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, he added.
The man’s identity has not been released pending notification of family members.
Debris was scattered across the freeway and investigators are currently documenting the evidence.
A tweet from the Utah Department of Transportation said the estimated clearance time is 2:30 p.m. and drivers are being urged to avoid the area.
Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
