SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 12, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Former Brighton High School and University of Southern California linebacker Osa Chad Masina, who had been charged with felony rape, has pleaded guilty to lesser charges and will avoid trial.

Masina, 20, on Thursday pleaded to three charges of sexual battery, class A misdemeanors. Masina had faced a trial on three first-degree felony charges, two of rape and one of forcible sodomy. Upon conviction, each charge would have been punishable with a maximum sentence of life in prison.

In his plea-deal statement, Masina admitted in two counts that he “… intentionally touched the genitals of V.K, a female person, under circumstances I should have known would likely cause affront or alarm to V.K.,” and in one count that he touched her anus or buttocks under the same circumstances, and that the victim was intoxicated after consuming alcohol and marijuana “… to a degree that I should not have engaged in the sexual activity described above.”

Masina was alleged to have violently raped the then 19-year-old woman in July of 2016 at a house party in Cottonwood Heights.

The indictment statement against Masina, based on the woman’s interview, said he had non-consensual sex multiple times with her as she passed in and out of consciousness. Masina told police the sex was consensual.
