Pedestrian struck, killed by train in Ogden

OGDEN, Utah, Jan. 21, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Ogden City police have confirmed a fatal collision between a pedestrian and a train just before 5 a.m. Wednesday.

“At approximately 4:57 a.m., Ogden City Police officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a train near 3550 Pacific Ave.

“Upon arrival, officers located a 31-year-old male who had been struck by a southbound, non-passenger train. The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Union Pacific confirmed to Gephardt Daily one of its trains was involved.

“A person trespassing on the railroad tracks … was struck by a train and died,” the Union Pacific statement says, in part. “The train crew was not hurt, but witnessed the incident and is being offered support. No information is available about the trespasser.”

Ogden City Police Department Traffic Investigators, along with the Weber-Morgan County Metro CRASH Team, are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, the OCPD statement says.

“At this time, investigators are working to determine whether the individual intentionally stepped in front of the train.

“The identity of the deceased has been confirmed; however, the name is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin. This investigation remains ongoing.

“Additional information will be released as it becomes available and appropriate. Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Ogden City Police Department.”
