WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, July 29, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are investigating an altercation in which shots were fired late Sunday night, and the suspects and victims fled before officers arrived.

West Valley City Police Lt. Shane Matheson said the incident took place in the parking lot of Mariscas las Islitas, a restaurant at 4874 W. 3500 South.

“There was an altercation in the parking lot. The only injuries were to two people who were assaulted,” Matheson told Gephardt Daily.

The suspects, however, got into a white Ford F-250 and fired three to five shots before taking off.

Although the victims had been physically assaulted, they apparently were not hit by gunfire, and they left the scene.

Matheson said it’s possible that the altercation began inside the restaurant, but the only witnesses were a few people who saw what happened outside.

The suspects were described as “possibly Hispanic males in their late teens.”

It isn’t known what set off the altercation or whether the incident is gang-related, Matheson said.

Anyone who has any information about this case is asked to call West Valley City Police at 801-840-4000.
