SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, May 1, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — An apparent domestic argument in South Salt Lake led to a police barricade Wednesday morning.
South Salt Lake Police Department public information officer Sgt. Gary Keller said a woman ran to a neighbor’s house near 2800 S. Adams St. (430 East) at about 8:52 a.m. saying she and her dogs had been threatened with a handgun during an argument in her home.
While the woman ran for help, the alleged suspect, identified only as a 31-year-old male, barricaded himself inside the residence.
Officials responded and set up a containment around the home, and initiated contact with the man inside. After approximately 30 minutes of negotiation the man surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.
Keller said there were no injuries in the course of the incident. He added that an immediate action team responded to the home and held containment while the SWAT team prepared for deployment. In the end, they were both able to stand down when the suspect surrendered .
As of 11 a.m. investigators have written a search warrant and are waiting to enter the house to try and locate the handgun, Keller said.
He added that the outcome of the incident was exactly what officials had hoped for. “This was a good day, a great day,” Keller said. “You never know what the outcome’s going to be.”
The suspect has not been identified at this time.
