FAIRVIEW, Utah, April 17, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — An eight-hour police standoff in Fairview is over after K-9’s were released into the residence Monday afternoon.
Fairview Mayor Jeffrey Cox told Gephardt Daily the standoff ended at approximately 1 p.m. when the Utah County SWAT team released K-9s into the house and the man peacefully surrendered.
Cox said the incident started at approximately 5 a.m. when the man, who has been identified as William Lamb, 35, broke a protective order and entered a home at 200 North between 300 East and 400 East.
Lamb then threatened the family inside the home, Cox said, one of whom is his ex-girlfriend. The family got out of the home and called law enforcement, and Lamb then barricaded himself inside the home.
Cox said Lamb was armed, and other homes in the neighborhood were evacuated. Those residents have been allowed back into their homes.
Fairview Elementary, which is at 651 E. 150 North, was briefly placed on lockdown.
Police also attempted to get Lamb to come out of the house by using gas, but that didn’t work.
Fairview, which is in Sanpete County, is five miles north of Mount Pleasant.
