SANTAQUIN, Utah, April 29, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A lockdown has been lifted after it was placed on several Nebo School District schools Monday.

“Today the Santaquin Police Department received notice of a potential threat in Santaquin,” says a social media post from the Santaquin Police Department.

“All Santaquin schools were placed on lockdown and officers were sent to each school until it was confirmed there was no threat. The schools have now been released from the lockdown and school will be in session as normal.”

Spanish Fork police did not disclose the nature of the threat, but the Nebo School District statement says a family member suggested a person who reportedly had talked about school violence might have access to weapons and be in the area.

“Several Nebo District schools in Santaquin, Payson, and Spanish Fork were put on ‘Secure Status – Get Inside; Lock Outside Doors’ by local law enforcement late Monday morning,” the district statement says. “Law enforcement was working to apprehend an individual that was moving throughout the area.

“The individual did not make specific threats to individuals or to schools, but a relative of the person reported concerns that the person had access to weapons and had previously talked about school violence. Schools were placed on ‘Secure Status’ to ensure the safety of students and staff.

“As of 12:20 p.m. the individual is now in police custody and ‘Secure Status’ has been removed by law enforcement. We appreciate your support and understanding as our police officers and schools worked together to provide safety and support to our students.”
