WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah, March 13, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Washington County man has been arrested after he allegedly caused some $10,000 in damages to his elderly mother’s home.

A probable cause statement from the 5th District Court of St. George said Elton Travis Taylor, 50, is facing a charge of second-degree felony criminal mischief. He was arrested March 6, and transported to Washington County Jail with his bail set at $10,000.

Deputies responded to the residence that Taylor lives with his elderly mother, the statement said.

“Family members reported he had an episode and damaged the house,” the arresting officer wrote in the statement. “We arrived to find many of the windows broken out of the house. There was blood on the ground and most of the upstairs windows were broken out. We performed a safety sweep of the house.”

Many home fixtures were broken including kitchen cabinet doors, kitchen drawers, some lighting fixtures and the television, the statement said. There was “a lot of glass” on the floors.

Taylor was found in the basement, the statement said. He claimed he found the damage when he came home. He said he was scared so he stayed in his bedroom. Taylor had cuts on his hands, the statement said.

A woman friend of Taylor’s said the suspect came to her house the day before, and had blood on his hands.

“He spent the night there, the next day he told her he had broke his mother’s windows, a television and trashed her house,” the statement said. “He said he could not go home.”

Taylor was placed under arrest and transported to jail without incident.
