WEST JORDAN, Utah, Aug. 16, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Two women, two toddlers and a baby were transported to area hospitals after a head-on crash on Redwood Road early Thursday afternoon.

Officer Scott List, from West Jordan Police Department, told Gephardt Daily a small silver passenger car was heading northbound on Redwood Road in the area of 9150 South. The car was in the center left turn lane, preparing to turn onto a side street, List said.

“A pickup truck heading southbound, according to witnesses, veered out of its lane and into the center lane and hit the car head on, pushing the car back, spinning it around and knocking a tree over,” List said. The tree became impaled in the engine compartment of the vehicle.

Five people were transported to area hospitals — a mother and 1-year-old child who were in the passenger car and a mother and two toddlers who were in the pickup truck. List did not give the condition of those who were transported.

A total of four ambulances, three from West Jordan and one from South Jordan, responded to the scene.

List said he believes all those who were transported were wearing seat belts or were in car seats, as he said there was a “very hard impact” and the injuries would have most likely been worse if the drivers and passengers were not restrained.

He said at this time it does not appear the driver of the pickup was impaired, but the cause of the crash is under investigation.

West Jordan and South Jordan Police Department and West Jordan and South Jordan Fire Department responded to the scene.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
