PROVO, Utah, Aug. 4, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A 4-month-old girl was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Provo early Thursday morning.
The Provo Police Department said in a news release on Facebook that police and fire units responded just after 4 a.m. to a traffic accident at 820 N. Oakmont Lane.
Officers found two women and the infant girl trapped inside an SUV. Officers were able to pry the windshield open to extricate the driver, 29-year-old Chelsea Fuller, infant Brylee McClellan, and Brylee’s mother, 38-year-old Susanne McClellan.
The news release said: “Brylee’s injuries were grave and she was transported by helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital, where she died at 8:44 this morning.
“The accident investigation revealed the following details. The driver was intoxicated with a breath alcohol content more than twice the legal limit. No one in the car was properly restrained by either a seatbelt or a car seat. While driving up the hill on Oakmont Lane the vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree, and rolled onto its left side.
“Susanne and Brylee McClellan were riding in a back seat where Susanne held Brylee in her arms. When the car rolled, Susanne and Brylee moved forward and received head and neck injuries when they impacted the windshield.”
Fuller was booked into custody at Utah County Jail on charges of second degree felony automobile homicide, third degree felony DUI, failure to wear a seatbelt and use a child restraint device and failure to maintain a lane.
A charge of reckless endangerment against McClellan is being considered by the Utah County Attorneys Office.
