NORTH SALT LAKE, Utah, Feb. 18, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A fully loaded fuel tanker rolled off the nterstate and landed in a pond Wednesday night.

According to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Mary Kaye Lucas, the accident happened just after 9 p.m. when a double tanker semi failed to negotiate the curve at the 2300 North on ramp to southbound 1-15, and ran off the road, ending up in a pond.

“Another semi-truck driver approached the scene and noticed a small fire by one of the fuel tanks,” Lucas said. “He was able to put out the fire with an extinguisher.”

The tankers were carrying 10,500 gallons of hard diesel fuel and regular fuel that will need to be removed into another semi before the scene can be cleared.

Hazmat and the EPA are on scene to make sure there is no hazard to the environment or the public’s safety.
