Salt Lake City, Utah, Dec. 14, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — The winter storm predicted to bring at least four to eight inches of snow to Salt Lake City has caused closures and delays throughout the city.

Due to difficult road conditions, Hogle Zoo is closed Monday and is aiming to reopen for both daytime and ZooLight admission Tuesday.

A press release from the Zoo said: “Many of the animals prefer these chilly temps and are at their best when the snow flies – Siberian big cats; tigers and leopards, polar bear etc.

“Most of the habitats have overhead heat, heated concrete etc. and if it’s too uncertain, we keep them inside where it’s toasty and warm.”

All libraries will also close at 3 p.m. Monday due to inclement weather conditions.

Also due to the snow storms, Salt Lake City is also ceasing regular Monday waste collections for the day.

A press release issued by the city said: “With more snow forecast for Tuesday, City Sanitation Service will do their best to complete Monday and Tuesday routes pickups by Wednesday, but they may occur later in the day depending on road conditions. Snow is expected throughout Monday night and into Tuesday.

“Residents are asked to please pull in their cans off the curb today so City snow plow drivers can clean the streets and plan on placing cans back out on Tuesday morning, before 7 a.m.

“The City also requests residents refrain from putting out their recycle and compost cans if they can wait another week for collection to help expedite makeup service on Tuesday.”

Collectors will work to accomplish pickups for residents who were missed first before moving on to regularly scheduled homes. If weather continues to impact collections, some pickups may need to be rescheduled for Saturday. Updates will be available on the city website at www.slcgreen.com.

Gov. Gary R. Herbert, issued the following statement in response to inclement weather and dangerous driving conditions:

“With severe weather conditions on Utah roads, I encourage employers to consider flexible work arrangements this evening and tomorrow morning as employees plan for their commutes. I have ordered all cabinet members to use their discretion to ensure as many employees as possible are dismissed early in order to complete their commute home before sundown.

“I express appreciation to our Utah Department of Transportation, Department of Public Safety, and all other road crews and public safety employees. On behalf of three million Utah residents, we thank you for the difficult, underappreciated, and often unseen work you do to protect motorists across the state.”
