SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 19, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The Salt Lake City Police Department has lifted a shelter in place protocol after a “burglary incident” at 850 W. 100 South on Monday afternoon.

The SLCPD said in a tweet just after 2 p.m. it was also asking vehicles and pedestrians to stay out of the area until further notice.

The shelter in place instruction was lifted a little before 4 p.m. when SWAT teams entered the residence in question and another one nearby and established the suspect was not inside either.

Detective Keith Horrocks with the SLCPD told Gephardt Daily a man initially called authorities and said a suspect approached his house and pulled a gun on him.

“He fled the residence and came and called us, and we responded to the area,” Horrocks said. “Right now we’re looking at that house, and we’re not sure if the suspect is in the house, or not in the house; but we’re treating it as if he’s there, so we’re trying to call him out and get information on what transpired there.”

It’s not known at this time exactly what the intent of the suspect was or whether the suspect and the victim knew each other.

“We hope we have a peaceful resolution with as little impact on the public as possible,” Horrocks added.

Horrocks said the suspect, who is still outstanding at this time, is described as Hispanic and about 5 feet 7 inches tall, wearing a gray hoodie. He is thought to be carrying a handgun.

The SLCPD will post any updates on the incident on Twitter.
