SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 2, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Two men were arrested early Sunday for the alleged assault of police officers responding to a reported large crowd surrounding two separate fights near Exchange Place in downtown Salt Lake City.
An arrest document for Jesus Edwardo Aleman, 27, says the SLCPD officer was dispatched just before 2 a.m. to 32 E. Exchange Place.
“I arrived at approximately 0158 hours in a marked police vehicle with emergency lights on and dressed in full uniform,” the SLCPD officer stated in the arrest document.
“Upon arrival, I observed a large crowd surrounding two separate altercations involving at least four individuals actively fighting. One male was on top of another continuously striking the other male in the face with a closed fist.
“I tackled the male on top who was striking the other and a struggle began. While attempting to make an arrest on the male I first tackled, (Aleman) ambushed me from behind and wrapped his arms around my neck, applying pressure. I was able to turn around and break his hold. (Aleman) then attempted to run away from me and I tackled him shortly after and placed him into custody.”
Aleman was booked into jail for investigation of the alleged crimes of:
- Assault on peace officer producing death/injury, a second-degree felony
- Failure to stop at command of law enforcement, a class A misddemeanor
- Interfering with a peace officer, a class B misdemeanor
He was ordered held without bail.
Second arrest
Also arrested was Abraham Aleman, 20.
“While officers were attempting to break up the fight, (Abraham Aleman) used two hands to shove an officer, then ran away,” his arrest document says.
“I was able to stop the male. He actively resisted my attempts to take him into custody, but I was able to gain his compliance.”
Abraham Aleman was arrested for investigation of:
- Assault on a peace officer in uniform, a class A misdemeanor
- Interfering with a peace officer, a class B misdemeanor
The younger Aleman was arrested with bail set at $1,000. As of Monday afternoon, he is not listed among jail inmates.
