SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 4, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — A man invited to stay with a woman and her juvenile daughter because he was homeless has been jailed for investigation of multiple felony charges related to child sexual abuse.
The apartment’s renter invited the 45-year-old man to stay temporarily with her and her daughter. Gephardt Daily is not sharing the man’s name to protect the privacy of the victim.
Charging documents say the man “would sleep in the living room on the floor, and claim he was ‘scared of the dark,’ and wanted the juvenile victim to ‘cuddle’ him. The juvenile victim did sleep next to (the homeless man) in the living room on the floor throughout the month of April.”
The police report, filed by an officer of the Salt Lake City Police Department, said the victim revealed the man would touch her inappropriately, and it happened multiple times
The victim said the man “would cover her mouth, preventing her from alerting her sleeping mother, and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.”
Post Miranda, the man told detectives he committed forcible sodomy, object rape and forcible sexual abuse.
The man was jailed without bail on May 1 for investigation of the alleged crimes of two counts of object rape, forcible sodomy and aggravated sexual assault, all first-degree felonies, and two counts of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony.
