SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, Aug. 1, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A missing 12-year-old girl from South Salt Lake has been found safe.
An 11:59 a.m. Thursday tweet from South Salt Lake City confirmed the news:
“UPDATE: Asiah Mister has been found and is safe. Thank you for the help finding her!”
According to the grandmother, Asiah had left home at about 4 p.m. Wednesday to meet an unknown female friend at a nearby Maverik Convenience Store. A message from the girl’s social media account at about 10 p.m. said Asiah was on her way home.
When the child had not returned by midnight, her grandmother called South Salt Lake Police, who searched the area, and were able to locate her Wi-FI phone signal just before the device turned off.
Police had asked the public’s help in finding Asiah early Thursday morning.
The Endangered Missing Alert for Asiah Mister was cancelled at 11:37 a.m.
A statement released later on Thursday by the South Salt Lake Police Department filled in some details in the case:
“Asiah Mister did not go to the Maverik Convenience Store as reported. Asiah Mister went to a neighboring apartment complex and met her 12 year-old friend who was with two other girls (ages 16 and 12). The group of four girls decided to have a sleep-over at one of the girl’s home in West Valley City. The location of West Valley home was near a location discovered by the grandmother via a location phone app, which she then gave to police.
“One of the girls’ mother drove the group of girls to the home in West Valley City.
“The following morning one of the girls saw a picture of Asiah on social media and called police that lead to Asiah’s safe return.”
