Spanish Fork elementary school keeping students inside after cougar sighting

SPANISH FORK, Utah, Oct. 4, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Students at a Spanish Fork elementary school are being kept inside Tuesday after a cougar was spotted nearby.

The Spanish Fork Public Safety Department posted on Facebook at 11 a.m. Tuesday that a cougar had been spotted in the vicinity of Canyon Elementary School, at 1492 E. 1240 South.

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and animal control officers are checking the area.

The school was notified and decided to keep students inside as a precaution.

People in the surrounding area are being asked to keep a close watch on children and pets. Anyone who sees the cougar is asked to call SFPD on 801-804-4700.
