Suspect Who Robbed Coffee Shop Arrested

SALT LAKE CITY – November 18 (Gephardt Daily) ─ A suspect who attempted to rob a man with a toy gun before up holding up the Global Place Coffee shop Wednesday morning has been arrested.

According to Salt Lake City Police, just before 7 a.m., a man walking south near 200 South Main Street told officers a man pointing a gun at him approached him and demanded his wallet. The victim recognized the gun to be a toy and fought with the suspect who then took off in an older model gold Mazda 6.

An hour later, a clerk at a local coffee shop reported that a male suspect entered the coffee shop located at at 1151 Redwood Road and pointed a black handgun at him and ordered him to not move. “He asked, ‘Where is the cash, don’t move, stay away,’ store clerk Kamal Mohamed said. “It was the first time I was held up by a gun. It was very scary.”

Mohamed said a man with a black jacket and black jeans, and a cloth covering his face, walked into the establishment, at about 8 a.m., brandished a gun, and demanded money. He got away with more than just cash. He took the whole cash register.

At 10:25 a.m., an officer spotted the suspect inside the matching vehicle parked near 210 South 500 West. Officers were able to approach the vehicle and arrest the suspect, Tyler Anderson without incident. Police believe Anderson was the man involved in both the robbery and attempted robbery cases.

Anderson was booked into jail on two counts of aggravated robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, and a warrant.
