LAYTON, Utah, Dec. 8, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A SWAT team was called early Saturday evening to the area of 2300 North and Hill Field Road, where a residential search warrant was being served in connection with an armed robbery last month.
Layton Police Sgt. Scott Clarke said 18-year-old Nathan Hickerson, of Layton, was known to be staying in a home in the area.
Hickerson is a suspect in an aggravated robbery that took place Nov. 12 at Quail Cove Apartments, 2090 N. Hill Field Road.
“In that robbery, two males arranged to purchase marijuana from one of their associates,” a Layton Police Department news release states. “During the drug transaction one male presented a firearm and struck the seller in the head.”
The 18-year-old victim suffered a cut to the head that required “numerous stitches,” according to the news release.
At some point during the robbery, a round was fired by the suspect with the gun. The bullet went into a wall of the apartment without striking anyone.
Layton Police detectives arrested one of the two robbery suspects, but only recently identified Hickerson as the suspect who had the gun. The suspect who was previously arrested is a juvenile, so officials are not releasing his name.
On Saturday, police took Hickerson into custody without incident.
Two handguns were recovered during the search of the residence, along with a distribution quantity of marijuana and clothing matching the description of that worn by Hickerson at the time of the robbery, the release says.
Hickerson is being booked into Davis County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and discharge of a firearm, a class B misdemeanor.
A 17-year-old was taken into custody during the service of the warrant and was booked into Farmington Bay for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, a third-degree felony, and possession of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony.
North Davis Metro SWAT assisted in serving the warrant. Clarke said it’s standard procedure to have SWAT on scene as a precaution when a suspect is known to have used a weapon previously.
