Police arrest Syracuse teen accused of brandishing knife inside high school, setting fire

SYRACUSE, Utah, Nov. 9, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have arrested a teen that they said brandished a knife inside Syracuse High School then started a fire outside Wednesday night.

The juvenile, whose name was not released because of his age, was booked into the Farmington Bay Youth Center on suspicion of aggravated assault, arson and criminal trespass, Syracuse Police Department said in a news release on Facebook.

The news release said the teen walked into the high school, wearing a bandanna covering his face, at approximately 8:30 p.m.

“When custodians asked him to leave the school, he brandished a knife and then promptly left the school,” the news release said. “When police arrived, a fire had been started near a dumpster behind the school. Fire crews responded and put out the fire immediately.”

No injuries were reported.

The students attending the after-school activities were escorted out of the school by police officers and the school was searched for the teen. He was taken into custody a short time later.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
