ALTAMONT, Utah, Feb. 24, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The second Utah man killed within a week as a result of a target shooting accident has been identified.

61-year-old Rocky Mecham of Mountain Home was shot while acting as a target spotter at private ranch in Duchesne County.

The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at 8:45 a.m. in a location where Mecham had been marking targets for two other men who were practicing long-range shooting.

According to deputies, there appeared to be some sort of communication error and Greg Timothy, 64, of Altamont, accidentally shot Mecham.

Mecham was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy.
