Taylorsville: School Fire Forces Animal Evacuation

Taylorsville, March 21, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Minutes after the call, firefighters arrived on scene at John C Fremont Elementary in Taylorsville. Crews arrived to smoke and flames coming from a portable classroom in the back of the school. In their initial efforts to douse the flames, emergency crews noticed animals being housed in the room and quickly evacuated them to the main building. “No injuries and all the animals made it out safe,” said Battalion Chief Ross Fowlks.

Investigators don’t believe foul play was involved, but that the fire was started by an electrical short in the roof of the building. No clear estimate regarding the actual cost of damage to the building, but as Fowlks points out it is a portable unit and it doesn’t take much to declare a total loss in a building of that type.
