WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Sept. 21, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Utah Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene of a multi-vehicle collision Friday morning on State Route 201.

A Ford F-150 was stopped on the westbound roadway at about 6700 West.

“What happened, a stalled vehicle here on the roadway, then potentially DUI charges from the rear car that kind of caused a chain reaction collision very quickly and at high speeds,” said UHP Trooper Aaron Capes.

“Everyone braking heavy, and then just the rear car kind of caused it all, a real big kind of crash. One is in custody for suspicion of DUI at the moment.”

Injuries were minimal, Capes said.

“Airbags and then seat belts being worn, which prevented a lot of more serious injuries, like ejection. I believe just one (went) to the hospital, and maybe some bumps and bruises.”

Four wreckers were called to the scene. A fifth vehicle that was driving by, eastbound, was damaged by flying debris.

Capes asks people to put their hazard lights on if they stall in the roadway.

“Use caution, maybe slow down a little bit,” he said. “If you can, carry flares. Crashes like this, when it hits hard and we got heavier vehicles versus those small vehicles, the small vehicles lose.”
