UPDATE: UHP Trooper Critically Injured During Crash Investigation Released from Hospital
CEDAR CITY, UTAH – JULY 20, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Trooper David Schiers, the Utah Highway patrolman who was critically injured when he was hit by an out-of-control car as he was assisting in another accident has released from the hospital.
According to the UHP Sgt. Todd Royce, the trooper was released on Monday and is expected to make a full recovery.
Schiers had responded to the scene of a single car crash outside Cedar City when a second driver lost control of his car, striking the first vehicle and pushing it on top of Schiers.
The Cedar City Fire Department had been previously summoned to assist with the first crash. They arrived to find Schiers pinned beneath one of the vehicles. Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to lift the vehicle off him.
UHP released the dramatic dash cam video showing the exact moment Trooper Schiers was hit while standing on the side of the highway.
According to UHP, there are festivities planned on Main St. when he arrives.
