SOUTH SALT LAKE, UTAH – July 20, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – South Salt Lake Police are looking for suspects in an altercation on Sunday night that lead to a 13-year-old boy being shot in the leg.

According to Executive Officer Gary Keller, SSLPD, three boys were walking in the area of 3300 S. 500 West on Sunday around 7 p.m. when they noticed they were being followed by other juveniles in a silver car. “The occupants of the car pulled up next to the boys and some sort of verbal altercation ensued,” said Keller. “The boys then fled on foot into the neighborhood and the individuals in the car followed them.”

Keller said that one of the juveniles inside the car pulled out a gun and fired off five rounds, striking one of the other boys in the leg. The friends of the boy who was shot went to the Maverick and called police.

“The bullet grazed the victim and he was thankfully not seriously injured,” said Keller. “He was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.”

Police are still looking for motive and say they do not have any indication at this time of any gang-related affiliations.
